Rangeley Lakes Region Ice out 2026

Rangeley Lake was officially declared ice-free this morning (April 29 at 7:32 AM), and the season is already shaping up strong.

I’ve been on the water the past couple days fishing lakes across the region—both casting flies and trolling—and conditions are moving fast. Water levels are low throughout the area, and surface temps are already climbing into the mid-40s to 50s when the sun is out.

The smelt spawn is underway, and sucker fish are staged up to spawn soon, and which mean if you are heading to the region to fly fish be sure to have streamers and sucker spawn eggs.

Guide season is about to get busy, I have just ONE Rangeley region trip date left:

📅 May 30 — prime time

Reach out to me with any questions or book it on my web site.
